Dog Saves Baby Deer From Drowning

Dogs are such awesome animals. They really do come through for others – including other animals. Ralph Dorn is a dog owner who had taken his goldendoodle, Harley, out for a day by the lake.

The Virgina resident was letting the six-year-old dog play to his heart’s content, when he suddenly vanished.

Worried, Dorn began to search the lake, hoping to spot sight of this dog. That is when he saw Harley out on the water, swimming with something. Upon closer inspection, it was found to be a fawn that was only a few days old.

Harley had taken it upon himself to escort the little fawn all the way back to shore. But that wasn’t the only thing that he did.

The sweet dog actually helped the fawn get out of the water by pulling him up the steep embankment.

Then, once the fawn was safely back on shore, the goldendoodle further cared for him by cleaning him and overall showing immense love towards the little baby deer.

The 62-year-old dog owner proudly said to PEOPLE, “Harley didn’t want to leave the fawn. He just kept interacting with it, licking it, caring for it.”

Dorn added the story to his Facebook, detailing more about the encounter. The very heartwarming post as since been shared more than a quarter of a million times.

He assured the public that the fawn’s mother eventually came for her baby, but wouldn’t approach until Harley had left.

The following day, the two reunited again, and have seemingly become unexpected best friends.

Of course, this doesn’t surprise Dorn in the least. He explained that Harley is a very loving dog, and has even worked as a therapy dog.

Dorn said to PEOPLE, “He has always been like that with children and animals.”
