Little Opossums That Have Lost Their Mother Are Adopted By A Little Dog

A dog in Brazil adopted a litter of possums after their mother was killed by a dog. Stephanie Maldonado, fortunately, discovered the pups in time and took care of them with her dog Petrinha.

Stephanie first called a wildlife rescue group to take in the children who had not yet opened their eyes; however, the rescue center was unable to accommodate them, and the lady was released from their care.

The babies needed to be fed every two hours because they were still extremely tiny and hadn’t opened their eyes.

Stephanie was anxious about their ability to thrive without a mother who was there 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Petrinha came in to assist at that precise time.

From that moment, the dog took charge of taking care of the baby opossums as if they were hers.

“Possum cubs are suckled and warmed by my 4-legged daughter Pretinha. It’s beautiful to see how careful she is with them, licking them all the time and cuddling them!”

Despite the fact that Petrinha is sterilized and cannot produce milk to nurse the babies, she struggled to help the young survive. The little possums saw her as their mother and sought her attention at every moment of the day.

The dog accepted them in such a way that it allowed them to climb on her back for pleasant walks just as a mother opossum would in nature.

Since Petrinha took care of the little Possums, they gained weight and developed normally thanks to her care, the surrogate mother was proud of her little ones.

The possums remained in the care of Stephanie and Petrinha in hopes of being released back to their natural habitat, of course not forgetting the love and care of their surrogate mother.
