Shiro Is A Deaf And Partially Blind Dog That Enjoys Comforting Foster Animals

Shiro had been adopted and returned to four separate homes, so his new human, Sheryl Smith, understood she had to assist him.

Sheryl has made it her mission to rescue abused and abandoned animals, nurture them back to health, and find them a permanent home.

Shiro had been in two animal shelters and 12 foster homes until she adopted him three years ago.
She understood how much he needed a home, telling The Dodo, “He was a handful, but everyone else had given up on him, and we weren’t prepared to do the same.”

“He still cries in the car because he thinks he’s being dropped off somewhere else,” says the narrator.

Shiro has been a bother for Sheryl, but he has stepped up to care for the other foster creatures she has brought home.
He does his hardest to calm the newcomers, making them feel more comfortable in their pain.

Shiro befriended Little Tolley, a hungry kitten he feared.
Shiro helped the kitten adjust to her new place. Over time, she began to feel much more comfortable with her younger friend.

“Shortly after his rescue, I rescued a pregnant dog who was unable to care for her puppies, so Shiro got in with them and began washing them.”

“He’s done that with every rescue I’ve accepted. She says, “He will just sit quietly with the feral cats/kittens and bonds with them so deeply that they trust him before they trust me.”
